A major part of Vincent’s Inspiring Sport Outreach is to engage with Alumni and Friends of Vincent’s to provide valuable insights for our Resident Members as they consider their next steps beyond the realms of Oxford.
In addition, our own Resident Members provide an inspiring mentor scheme to sixth form students applying to Oxford, sharing their own experiences and learnings. If you would like to join in the Vincent’s Mentor speaker programme; please email the bursar at bursar@vincents.org.

Alan Pascoe MBE
On November 7th, we were very privileged to welcome Alan Pascoe MBE, one of the founding and driving forces of the British sports marketing industry and former Vice-Chairman of the London 2012 Olympic Bid.
As an athlete, Alan was Commonwealth Games and European Champion in the 400m Hurdles and won Olympic 400m Relay Silver amidst a tally of nine medals at major championships.
He was a teacher at Dulwich College and a lecturer in physical education at Borough Road College, Isleworth before embarking on an industry-defining sports marketing career, beginning in television and later establishing Alan Pascoe Associates.
“APA” oversaw sports sponsorship across British sport as the industry leader and pioneer from athletics to rugby, motorsport, football and cricket becoming an international network of agencies that formed a major part and heritage of today’s Octagon and Fast Track.
Alan was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 1975 New Year Honours for services to athletics, and received an honorary doctorate from Brunel University in 1997.

Richard Dudley
In January, Richard Dudley (Exeter), former Greyhounds Captain and Global Head of Climate Strategy at Aon, visited Vincent’s to share insights and highlights from his career.
Richard left Exeter College in 1992 with his degree in PPE. After an abortive attempt to enter the forestry industry, he joined a city based insurance brokerage firm. His career in the insurance and reinsurance industry has taken him from client management and business production through team, divisional and board leadership roles. He works for leading global professional services firm Aon.
Having run their wholesale and speciality business in London, two years ago he moved to his current role as Global Head of Climate Strategy. The risk transfer capital markets play a critical role in de-risking investments across the economy.
The focus in his role is to ensure the delivery and development of existing and new solutions to drive further and faster deployment of capital into both technologies that will deliver a low carbon economy, and risk mitigation strategies to improve resilience against the changing climate.
Richard also sits on the Council of Lloyd's, the body responsible for governing the Lloyd's international (re)insurance market in London.
In February, we were delighted to welcome Erin Kennedy MBE to Vincent’s Club, in collaboration with Oxford University Netball Club, as the highlight of a Women in Sport Evening. Erin is a Paralympic Gold Medalist, multiple world champion and Oxford Blues cox. She is also a campaigner for coppafeel; almost a year to the day after being diagnosed with breast cancer, she helped her team win gold at the European Championships.
Just four weeks after her diagnosis, while still competing for British Rowing, she decided to share her story publicly at every step of the way. In doing so, she provided a detailed and engaging account to support others fighting cancer.
Our warmest thanks to Erin for an inspirational talk on her career and her recovery from a double mastectomy to return to Paralympic Games contention this year in Paris and to OUNBC for the collaboration.
The end of February saw one of the highlights of the term so far, with leading figures of Formula One coming together for a special panel event at Vincent’s. Former Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer, joined Vincent’s Alumnus and leading F1 Commentator, James Allen together with Ruth Buscombe, one of F1’s leading strategy engineers, to complete the starting line-up for Vincent’s Club first F1 Inspiring Sport Speaker Evening.
The evening featured insights and anecdotes from the fast moving world of Formula One on the eve of the first Grand Prix of the season in Bahrain. It was standing room only as those lucky enough to get a place received some valuable tips for the season ahead and a perspective of the business of F1, on and off the track.
We are enormously grateful to James, again, for bringing the panel together and hosting a fantastic evening and to Ruth and Omar for sharing their valuable time with us.
